On Saturday August 1st Michael and Seth Fallon of Copake Auction Inc. conducted a catalogued Americana auction featuring period furniture, fine art, period accessories, folk art, textiles, primitives and more. The 565 lot sale attracted over 200 checked in buyers and 400 absentee and phone bids. “While the summer months typically slow down a little bit for us, this sale was well attended and the prices were strong. The sale featured some of the best items we’ve offered since our New Year’s day sale.” Seth Fallon commented.

Top lots in the folk art category included a leaping stag weathervane (probably Fiske Factory) $5,280, a rare figural wrought iron Indian Chief door latch $2,860, a Blackhawk horse weathervane $4,070 and a 19th c. French trade sign featuring a soldier “Au Soldat Francais” $1,045.
A fine selection of accessories was sold including a late 18th early 19th c. burl bowl $1,980, a 17th c. Capstan candlestick $577.50, a circa 1900 bronze statue titled “The Water Carrier” signed H. Muller/Sterling Bronze Co. $550, an early Maine painted Eider duck decoy $660, William Spratling Sterling Rosewood salt cellers $297, a 19th c. miniature Taconic basket $440 and a Weller pottery vase by Jacques Sicard circa 1900 $440.
A Dutch 17th c. oil on canvas titled “The Battle of the Boyne” attributed to Egbert van Heemskerk II sold for $8,800. Other fine art included a 19th c. graphite sketch of a European cityscape, singed “Childe Hassam, Paris 1888, Saint Michael” $2,750 and a Memorial watercolor painting with Masonic emblem of fallen Civil War solider “Cassivs F. Mitchell Port Hudson Miss. Aug. 12 1863 aged 24 years…” $1,320.
Some notable items in the furniture category included a circa 1810 North Shore Boston Sheraton sideboard $1,760, a 19th c. decorated ball foot blanket box $1,265, a circa 1815 Sheraton North Shore sofa $1,980, a circa 1810 Hepplewhite cherry slant lid desk $1,100 and a pair of Paul McCobb moderne end tables with metal Calvin labels $962.50.
