On Saturday June 16th Michael and Seth Fallon of Copake Auction held a one owner unreserved Americana Auction with selected additions. The sale featured a large collection of early lighting from a Salisbury CT collector who had the items in storage for 10-15 years. The quantity and diversity of lighting items was impressive, you could find a lot of betty lamps selling for $275 or a single wrought iron floor lamp bringing as much as $725. Whale oil lamps, sconces, candlesticks, tin lamps adjustable wooden candle fixtures all brought consistently more than the high estimate. “We feel very lucky to have had the chance to sell an untouched collection of this quality” commented Seth Fallon. Some highlights include: Pair of mosaic mirrored candle sconces $1,540; Queen Anne snake foot adjustable wooden two candle lighting fixture $1,430; Wooden adjustable trammel double candlestand on base with turned legs $575; Punched tin lantern having double candle lights $525. Pair of tole decorated whale oil lamps $990.
Copake’s staple period country furniture also did very well highlights include: 18th c. Hudson Valley shoe foot hutch table $2,090; 18th c. tavern table having oval top, single drawer and splayed turned legs with stretcher base $1,200; 19th c. country store apothecary cupboard in original painted surface $2,310; Bench made Quebecois farm table $935; Unusual early hooded adjustable candlestand with tiger maple drawer $2,970. A collection of children’s transfer mugs were sold, prices ranged from $80-$375. A 1954 Gibson Les Paul Jr. guitar brought an impressive $9,350 and a Violin stamped "FB" attributed to Francois Barzoni made $935. The second half of a collection of paintings by Great Barrington Mass. artist Stanley Phillips was offered including still lifes and a series of paintings of Tuscany. The paintings averaged a reasonable $200-500.
